Accommodation access to help the vulnerable self-isolate

In helping to establish two Commonwealth endorsed Respiratory Clinics operated by Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service, we realised that for some Aboriginal people, the ability to self-isolate following COVID-19 testing was problematic.

In collaboration with Derbarl Yerrigan, Public Health Operations, COVID Care Assistance Team and State Welfare Incident Control Centre (an extension of Department of Communities), we developed a pathway of care to ensure Aboriginal people can access temporary accommodation.

This works by providing access to two nights of accommodation through the State Welfare Incident Control Centre while people wait for COVID-19 tests results. Positive cases would be provided with a further 14 days of isolation accommodation and ongoing care coordination from Derbarl Yerrigan if health needs were to escalate. Read more
